Widhaby Advisors attends first Citywire Breakfast Briefing in Stockholm

Widhaby Advisors had the pleasure and privilege to attend the first Citywire Braekfast Briefing on 8th June 2022 at the picturesque Skeppsholmen Hotel in Stockholm, located on an Islet, at a walking distance from the city centre.

Jauri Häkkä had the privilege to co-chair one of the panel sessions together with Pietro Cecere of Citywire: Finding Value in Sustainability or ESG Themed Funds, with senior fund selectors from Danske Bank and SEB discussing the topic.

Sustainable thematic investing is growing fast and according to a recent Eurosif study, funds following these types of startegies have grown with an annual compounded growyrh rate of 25% iover the last few years, reaching a lecel of AuM of several hundred billion euros.

One of the hot topics in this field is the risk of diminishing returns on popular thematic startegies. Some investors seem to have ended in 'buyer's remorse' after allocating to hot themes. The demand for SFDR article 8 or 9 funds may also push up demand in a scarse market segment, crating inflated valuations. These challenges will persist for a while, and leadig fund selectors emphasise the importance of a rigorous due diligence to avoid diappointmenst.
